Sending your TOEFL iBT® scores to colleges is a crucial step in the application process. It ensures that your hard-earned results are seen by the admissions teams at your chosen institutions. Whether you're applying to universities in the U.S., Canada, or anywhere else in the world, knowing how to efficiently send your scores can make a significant difference.

In this blog, we will guide you through choosing score recipients, delivery time of your TOEFL iBT®Test scores to colleges, and insights to make the procedure smooth and hassle-free. So, let's begin!

Choose Score Recipients Before TOEFL iBT Test

When you register for the TOEFL iBT test, you have the opportunity to select up to four institutions, agencies, or other recipients to receive your official TOEFL score reports at no additional cost. This is included in your test fee. You can make changes to your list of recipients through your ETS account up until 10 p.m. (local test center time) on the day before your test. This flexibility allows you to ensure that your scores reach the most relevant institutions.

It's important to note that if you choose to send your scores to any institution or agency, you will not be able to request a score review of your Writing and/or Speaking sections. Therefore, make your selections carefully to avoid any inconvenience.

When Do Institutions Receive Your TOEFL iBT Scores?

The delivery time for your TOEFL iBT scores can vary depending on the method of delivery and how your designated recipients receive scores. Here’s an approximate timeline:

  • ETS Data Manager: Scores are delivered within 4–8 business days.
  • Server Feeds: Scores usually arrive within 8–10 business days.
  • Postal Mail: Scores sent by mail generally take 10–12 business days, plus additional mailing time. For mail delivery within the United States, allow an extra 7–10 days. For international mail delivery, expect an additional 4–6 weeks.

By understanding these timelines, you can better plan your application process and ensure that your scores reach your chosen institutions on time.

Additional TOEFL Score Reports

Your TOEFL iBT scores are valid for two years after your test date. During this time, you can order additional score reports through your ETS account for a fee of US$25 per institution or agency. This allows you to send your scores to more institutions as needed, giving you flexibility in your application process. But now the important question is how to order these score reports.

How to Order Additional TOEFL Score Reports?

If you need to send additional score reports to institutions not identified before you took the test, you can do so for a fee of US$20 per recipient. Here’s how to order additional score reports:

1. Online or via the TOEFL Official App

Ordering additional score reports online or through the official TOEFL app is quick and convenient. Here’s how you can do it.

  • Use a credit/debit card, a PayPal account, or an e-check in U.S. dollars.
  • Ensure your order is placed after your scores have been posted, approximately six days after the test date.
  • Score reports are mailed 3–5 business days after the request and payment are received.
  • Allow 7–10 days for mail delivery within the U.S.
  • Allow 4–6 weeks for mail delivery to other locations.

Note: ETS has no control over international mail delivery times. For specific delivery times, contact your local postal service.

2. Mail or Fax

If you prefer a more traditional approach, you can also order additional score reports by mail or fax. Follow these steps.

  • Follow the instructions on the Additional Score Report Request Form.
  • Score reports are sent approximately 10 business days after the request and payment are received.
  • If paying by credit/debit card, fax your order form to +1-610-290-8972. Clearly mark duplicate faxes to avoid extra charges.
  • Allow 7–10 days for mail delivery within the U.S.
  • Allow 4–6 weeks for mail delivery to other locations.

Processing Tips for TOEFL iBT Scores

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your TOEFL iBT scores are sent accurately and promptly to the institutions of your choice. This process is essential for your application and helps streamline your path to academic success.

  • Do not send additional letters with your form and payment.
  • Provide codes only for institutions not identified before you took the test.
  • List no more than eight institutions per form. Use additional forms if necessary.
  • Ensure correct codes, sign and date the form.
