Top MBA Schools that Waive TOEFL Requirements

University

TOEFL Waiver Conditions

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

TOEFL or IELTS waivers are granted on a case-by-case basis to international students who have completed several years of study at universities where English is the primary language of instruction.

Stanford University

Students holding a degree from the US or Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the UK are exempt from the TOEFL requirement. However, all international students whose native language is not English must submit TOEFL scores. If they have completed a degree where English was the medium of instruction, they can submit a TOEFL waiver request form after submitting their application for admission.

Caltech

Non-native English speakers are generally required to take the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE. However, exemptions are available for:

  • Candidates who have completed more than two years of study in the United States.

  • Applicants holding a degree where English was the primary language of instruction.

Regardless of exemptions, all students are assessed before enrollment, and additional training may be recommended based on the evaluation.

University of Chicago

The English language requirement can be waived for applicants who are native speakers or have completed at least one year of study in the USA, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, or South Africa. However, work experience in these countries does not qualify for an exemption.

Princeton University

The following applicants are exempt from taking the TOEFL:

  • Those whose native language is English.

  • Applicants who have completed their undergraduate degree with full instruction in English, as verified by the institution

  • Applicants who have completed at least two years of full-time graduate study, with all instruction in English, as certified by the institution

Cornell University

A candidate may be exempt from submitting TOEFL scores if they meet one or more of the following conditions:

  • The applicant is a native citizen of a country where English is the primary language, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Ghana, or Canada. Citizens of India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, or Singapore are not eligible for this exemption.

  • The applicant has completed a university degree in one of the English-speaking countries mentioned above.

  • The applicant has earned a university degree in a non-English-speaking country but can provide official proof that the language of instruction for their education was exclusively English.

Yale University

Applicants will be eligible for a waiver if they have completed at least three years of study at a college where English is the primary language of instruction

Oxford University

To qualify for a language test waiver, you must have completed a degree-level program that meets the following criteria:

  • It lasts a minimum of nine months.

  • It is a full-time course.

  • It was conducted entirely in English for both teaching and assessment at a recognized institution.

  • It was completed no more than two years before the start date of the program you are applying to.

Nanyang Technological University

TOEFL is not required if you are a native English speaker or if your undergraduate studies were conducted entirely in English
