Financial Aid for International Students at UCLA Anderson School of Management 

For international students, Financing their education can be daunting. Hence UCLA offers a variety of financial aid for international students. Here are the financial aid offered by UCLA: 

Fellowships 

Need/Merit-Based Fellowship

MSBA Fellowships are given to new students based on the strength of their admission and fellowship applications, as well as their financial needs. If you are admitted to the MSBA program, you will automatically be considered for a fellowship. You do not need to apply separately for it. There are limited awards, and the UCLA Anderson Fellowship Committee makes the selections.

Federal Graduate PLUS Loan

UCLA is part of the Direct Loan Program. This means that federal loans will only be issued by the federal government, specifically the Department of Education.

Limit: Up to the Cost of Attendance (minus financial aid)

  • The interest rate is 9.083% for 2024-25

  • 4.228% origination fee (will change every Oct.)

  • Requires a credit check

  • Students can borrow up to the cost of education minus other financial aid

  • Repayment begins 60 days after the final disbursement, the borrower can request a deferment until six months after graduation

  • The standard repayment term is 10 years

  • Flexible repayment options such as income-based repayment

  • Loan forgiveness program

  • No prepayment penalty

  • The annual interest rate may vary based on 10-year Treasury notes

Private Loans 

Other than the federal loans, students can also finance their education with private education loans.

UCLA Anderson School Management Visa Status for International Students 

Understanding the Visa process is essential for International Students. Here are the visa types and requirements for UCLA Anderson students: 

Visa Types 

  • About 95% of international MBA students obtain an F-1 visa.

  • About 5% of international MBA students obtain a J-1 visa, if they have a corporate or government sponsor paying at least half of the minimum resources required, as shown in a sponsorship letter. 

  • Sponsored students have the option of obtaining an F-1 or J-1 as their sponsor permits, and most choose the J-1 visa, especially if they have a spouse who wants to work in the USA.

  • Students on a visa may obtain temporary work authorization after their first year of study under the Curricular Practical Training (CPT) program and for a year after graduation under the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program. 

Requirements 

International students need to get a full-time student visa before they can enroll in the MSBA program unless they are already U.S. Permanent Residents. This process requires all of the following: 

  • Accept the offer by clicking the link in your admission letter and pay a non-refundable tuition deposit of $2,000.00.

  • Submit a statement of Intent to Register (SIR) using the graduate admission checklist link in your admission letter.

  • Once your SIR form is processed, follow the link from UCLA to complete additional steps for your student visa, including submitting a confidential financial statement form.
