TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 80, with no subsection below 16. 

Standardized Tests

SAT/ACT scores are optional. 

Application Deadlines

  • Early Action: November 15
  • Regular Decision: January 15
  • Transfer (Spring): October 1
  • Transfer (Summer/Fall): March 1.

Application Fee

A non-refundable fee of $70 is required.

Required Documents

  • Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR): All applicants are encouraged to complete the SRAR, including all courses and grades for years 9-11 and in-progress/planned coursework for year 12/13.
  • Transcripts and Exam Results: Alternatively, copies of secondary school transcripts and all exam results can be uploaded to the Common App or applicant portal.

Additional Notes

  • All first-year students must reside on campus unless they are 21 years old or older.
  • All entering students must have a personal computer; specifications and purchase options will be provided upon admission.

Varies by program; applicants should consult the specific deadlines for their intended program. For example, the Computer Science PhD program has a deadline of December 15, 2024, for Fall 2025 admission.

Application Fee

A non-refundable fee is required; the amount may vary by program.

Additional Notes

  • International students applying for F-1 or J-1 visas can only choose the Blacksburg or Greater Washington DC area campuses and are not eligible for executive master’s or online programs.
  • Submission of financial and immigration documents is required after admission into a graduate program.

How to Send Your TOEFL Score to Virginia Tech 

Here's how to send your TOEFL score to Virginia Tech University and ensure it reaches the admissions office on time.

1. Log in to Your ETS Account

  • Visit the official ETS TOEFL website: www.ets.org/toefl
  • Click on “Sign In” and enter your username and password.
  • If you’ve forgotten your details, you can reset them on the site.
  • This is the same account you used when booking your TOEFL test.

2. Go to 'Send Additional Score Reports'

  • Once logged in, go to the TOEFL section of your account dashboard.
  • Click on “Send Additional Score Reports.”
  • This option lets you send your TOEFL results to more universities after you’ve taken the test.

3. Enter Virginia Tech's Institution Code

  • When asked to choose where to send your score, search by the university name or enter their official code.
  • For Virginia Tech, the TOEFL code is 5859.
  • This code is unique to Virginia Tech, and entering it ensures your score goes directly to the university’s admissions team.

4. Choose the TOEFL Test Date

  • You will see a list of your past TOEFL test dates.
  • Select the score you want to send (you can choose your most recent one or the one with the best results).
  • Remember, Virginia Tech only accepts scores that are less than 2 years old.
