Mid-Level Answer Audio Transcript:

I opine that, um, physical textbooks are vital and so I am disagreeing that university students, uh, should have access to digital texts. I mean that of course the digital books would be easy to carry for students because, um, they can carry many books at once without the physical weight. But, I think that not everyone can, um, afford devices like phones and laptops. It needs to be attached to Wi-Fi or internet or something, um, to be able to access the books. I believe that physical textbooks will not need battery or, um, software updates, uh, to operate. So, it makes a person, well, um, to be dependent on these devices, like mobile phones or computers, which, um, can affect their studies or exams. (126 words)

Rater’s Comment:

Even though it has covered the main points, it could have been enhanced by using more specific examples or data to strengthen the arguments. The analysis is somewhat basic with many pauses and fillers like “um” and “uh”, disrupting the overall flow of the answer. This is a mid-level answer due to the sentence structure, filler, and basic analysis without much explanation.

High-Level Answer Audio Transcript:

While physical printed textbooks have many advantages, maintaining access could be difficult. I believe that it shouldn’t be mandatory to have digital textbooks available for university students even though it is easy and convenient. As digital textbooks are portable and can be accessed on various devices, it would allow students to carry as many books as possible without the physical constraints. In times of revision before an exam, it is easy for students to go through the notes with features like search functions and interactive content. On the contrary, when reading from paper instead of a screen, comprehension and retention can be enhanced. This is because of less eye strain which improves focus and understanding. Therefore, I think that universities should provide both physical and digital textbooks to meet the needs of students with varying learning styles. (137 words)

Rater’s Comment:

This response demonstrates a thorough understanding of the topic and expresses a clear opinion. The well-rounded argument effectively addresses both the benefits of digital textbooks and the reasons for still maintaining physical textbooks. The answer is detailed with supportive examples for the reasons provided, with appropriate vocabulary and sentence structure. The comprehensive approach makes this response a high-level answer.
