Tips to provide concise answers in the timing for TOEFL Speaking

To answer the Speaking Section and coherently provide your response, time is one of the critical factors to deliver strong, well-organized responses that meet the requirements of each task. There are certain tricks which can be incorporated for a concise answer.

  • Always time your brainstorming in order to be focused and not move away from the topic.
  • Practice speaking for 50-55 seconds on a daily basis so that you can develop an answer and get used to the time frame. This will eventually leave 5-10 seconds for a conclusion which must be brief
  • Stay calm as answers under pressure can create confusion and anxiety which might also affect your response. Use time efficiently and trust your preparation, and maintain a medium pace while avoiding speaking very quickly or slowly.
  • Do not overthink your answers since simplicity is more important. Avoid using any unnecessary information and speak to the point.

As timing is important in TOEFL Speaking, practising using stopwatch and brainstorming ideas could help in organising your thoughts. This will not only help you with the preparation but also make your answer well-equipped.
